SQUAD in Town of Poland, NY is seeking a Lead Applied Scientist to drive full-cycle research in sensors, computer vision, and data analysis, reporting to Head of Research. You will steer a team to reach milestones and timelines, balancing technical leadership with people management.

The role emphasizes processing visual and sensor data, prototyping new features, coordinating with data teams to develop evaluation metrics and optimize algorithms; strong background in Python, ML, and CS

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in research, data science, or data analysis.
• 1+ years of experience leading a research group or technical team on data science projects.
• Strong background as a software engineer working on advanced algorithms or production-ready software.
• Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of Computer Vision algorithms.
• Solid understanding of deep learning frameworks, ML, and data analysis concepts.
• Strong experience in Python.
• Good knowledge of CS fundamentals, algorithms, and data structures.
• Bachelor's Degree in Math, Computer Science, Robotics, or related field.
• Proficient in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 4-8 Applied Scientists to advance research projects and algorithmic performance using state-of-the-art or classical techniques.
• Own and maintain existing CV features.
• Prototype new features within computer vision and sensor domains.
• Coordinate with the data team to analyze research test data, develop evaluation metrics, and optimize algorithms.
