Job description

This role is for a highly experienced and hands‑on Lead Applications Development Engineer at the Vice President level within the Wealth Investment Technology Advisory and Brokerage Organization. The candidate will drive strategic platform and product development for the Wealth Advisory business, focusing on key transformational initiatives such as the BlackRock Portfolio Solutions partnership, Unified Managed Accounts, and an integrated portfolio analytics solution. The position requires deep technical expertise, leadership in front‑to‑back development, and a strong commitment to adopting innovative AI and prompt‑based engineering practices.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with multiple management teams to ensure appropriate integration of functions to meet goals and identify necessary system enhancements to deploy new products and process improvements.
  • Resolve a variety of high‑impact problems and projects through in‑depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes, and industry standards.
  • Provide expertise in applications programming and ensure application design adheres to the overall architecture blueprint.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of system flow and develop standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation.
  • Develop a comprehensive knowledge of how areas such as architecture and infrastructure integrate to accomplish business goals.
  • Provide in‑depth analysis and interpretive thinking to define issues and develop innovative solutions.
  • Serve as an advisor or coach to mid‑level developers and analysts, allocating work as necessary.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm’s reputation, compliance with laws and regulations, and sound ethical judgment.
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of critical, multi‑year strategic initiatives, including BlackRock Portfolio Solutions, Unified Managed Accounts, and a comprehensive portfolio analytics solution integrated with the end‑to‑end ecosystem.
  • Partner with product management, business stakeholders, and architecture teams to define technical roadmaps, ensure alignment with strategic objectives, and deliver scalable solutions.
  • Drive the resolution of high‑impact technical challenges and complex business problems through innovative solution development.
  • Lead front‑to‑back development using modern technologies such as Angular, SpringBoot, Kafka, and Oracle.
  • Champion the adoption and integration of AI tools and prompt‑based engineering practices to enhance development efficiency and innovation.
  • Maintain interest in emerging technologies and industry trends to optimize processes and deliver business value.
  • Act as a mentor and coach to foster technical growth, allocate work effectively, and promote a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Collaborate across technology and business functions, including architecture, infrastructure, and operations, to ensure seamless integration and successful delivery of solutions.
  • Adhere to company policies, apply ethical judgment, and manage control issues with transparency.
Recommended Qualifications
  • 6–10 years of progressive experience in applications development with a strong focus on hands‑on, front‑to‑back engineering.
  • Extensive experience with modern web development frameworks (e.g., Angular), backend technologies (e.g., SpringBoot), messaging platforms (e.g., Kafka), and relational databases (e.g., Oracle).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and delivering complex, multi‑year technology projects within financial services or wealth management.
  • Proven interest and practical familiarity with AI tools and prompt‑based engineering.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, design patterns, and scalable application development principles.
  • Exceptional leadership, project management, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Consistently demonstrates clear, concise, and effective written and verbal communication.
