Job summary

Primerica is seeking a remote Software Developer to design, modify, and develop systems using modern techniques. You will analyze current systems, assess feasibility, and lead work with junior developers. Requires experience across multiple development disciplines and strong problem-solving abilities.

The role supports on-call production systems, mentoring, and collaboration with business teams. Salary ranges between $120,000 and $125,000 with full remote eligibility and no sponsorship

Qualifications

• Technical, trade or business school or equivalent experience in computer science, computer engineering or related field.
• 4-5 years’ experience
• Participated in several major system projects and shown proficiency in several development discipline/platforms.
• Problem solving skills, analysis and design skills.
• Coding, testing and debugging systems.
• Self-motivated with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Takes ownership of tasks with minimal guidance.

Responsibilities

• Codes, unit tests, and debugs programs for optimal performance using advanced techniques.
• Writes technical specs and creates thorough unit test plans for new functionality.
• Performs thorough unit testing and regression validation.
• Uses source code management and build tools for development and deployment.
• Documents new systems and changes with flow charts and design docs.
• Reviews test plans and results to ensure project requirements.
• Provides training by mentoring other developers/contractors.
• On-call production support and issue resolution.
• Collaborates with business partners to define needs and evaluate feasible solutions.
• Develops project proposals and presents to stakeholders for review and approval.
• Ensures adherence to SDLC and Change Management policies.
• Manages complex projects to completion and maintains positive relationships.

About this Position

Developer is responsible for designing, modifying and developing systems using advanced techniques including the ability to analyze current systems to resolve new and/or existing problems. Evaluates technical feasibility of proposed system solution, develops project proposals and develops/modifies systems to meet the business need. Requires in-depth knowledge and experience in at least one software specialization. Acts as resource for colleagues with less experience; may lead or direct the work of other developers/projects. Stays current on new and emerging technology. Works independently; receives minimal guidance.

The salary range for this role is $120k - $125K.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Performs Technical Duties:

• Codes, unit tests, and debugs programs ensuring optimal performance using advanced programming techniques

• Writes technical specifications and creates thorough unit test plans for each new functionality, application and/or conversion from one application system to the next

• Performs thorough unit testing for new functionality, applications, conversions, etc., through full regression validation

• Utilizes appropriate software tools for source code management, code creation, compilation and program execution

• Documents new systems as well as changes to existing systems according to established standards; develop flow charts, logic charts, record formats, and coding structures using architecture approved tools

• Reviews business test plans and results to ensure effectiveness in meeting project requirements

• Directs training of business personnel in new and modified systems

• Provides on-call support for production and lower environments

• Provides training by working with and mentoring other developers and/or contractors

Analysis and Investigative Responsibilities:

• Performs background analysis through research, interviews / meetings with business areas to define needs, understand desired results and to resolve problems

• Meets independently with business partners and management to determine systems solutions and evaluates technical feasibility

• Analyzes detailed system factors, including input and output requirements, information flow, hardware and software requirements and alternative methods of problem resolution to ensure optimal performance

• Analyzes and documents new systems as well as changes to existing systems according to established standards; develops detailed flow charts, logic charts, record formats, and coding structures

• Applies advanced analysis skills and business knowledge in order to solve complex business problems

• Utilizes appropriate approved tools to design solutions

• Stays abreast of advanced technology within areas of expertise

• Collaborate with others to formulate optimal solutions

Project Delivery Responsibilities:

• Participates and leads system creation, planning, and coordination with other IT teams and resources
• Coordinates with business teams on appropriate work efforts for their areas
• Creates and/or updates system documentation as appropriate based on project assignment
• Develops project proposals (including estimates) and presents to stakeholders for review and approval
• Discuss and document how proposed changes to the system will affect business process or other relevant systems
• Enforces and adheres to the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Technology Management Policy
• Adhere to the Change Management Technology Management Policy

Project Leadership:

• Manages more complex projects to completion including project design and proposals
• Maintains positive business/peer interactions

Compliance:

• Protects the company’s authority to do business by complying with legal and ethical standards, policies and procedures
• Follows all applicable Information Technology Management Policies
• Ensures new development tools, methods or frameworks provide for secure coding techniques

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Provides training, guidance or mentoring to team members; no formal supervisory responsibilities

Experience Requirements:

• Technical, trade or business school or equivalent experience in computer science, computer engineering or related field

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Java or C#, with experience developing web services using frameworks such as Springboot, J2EE, and/or NodeJS/NestJS/Express JS
• Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins or Gradle
• Experience with Container Management Software like Docker or Kubernetes
• Troubleshooting tools like Chrome DevTools, IE Developer Tools, & BrowserStack
• Test management and defect tracking tools such as Jira
• Databases, JDBC, SQL, JSON and XML parsing
• Unit Testing and Code Coverage with methods like JUnit
• Exposure to troubleshooting server-side applications with tools like Wireshark
• Messaging products: IBM MQ, Kafka, or Apache MQ
• Understanding of Design Patterns and how to apply them
