Job summary

BioTalent is seeking a Lead Android Software Engineer to build and maintain Android applications that are core to our medical device ecosystem. You will work at the intersection of mobile software and connected medical devices, collaborating with embedded, cloud, systems, quality, and regulatory teams to develop reliable software that meets the rigor of a regulated environment.

This role owns complex features end-to-end — from requirements through implementation, verification, and post-market

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of professional software development, including production Android applications.
• Advanced proficiency with Kotlin and the Android SDK, including Jetpack Compose and Coroutines/Flow.
• Strong software architecture, concurrency, and API design knowledge.
• Experience building applications that communicate with external hardware or connected devices.
• Experience with automated testing and Git-based CI/CD workflows.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Medical device, digital health, or other regulated/safety-critical software experience preferred.
• Familiarity with IEC 62304, ISO 14971, or FDA QSR preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin.
• Own the architecture and implementation of complex features.
• Build applications that communicate reliably with connected devices via BLE and other protocols.
• Collaborate with embedded engineers to define interfaces between the app and device hardware.
• Develop unit, integration, and automated testing to ensure software quality.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and root-cause analysis.
• Identify software hazards and contribute to risk-control strategies.
• Maintain documentation and design artifacts per the quality management system.
• Support design controls, verification and validation, and regulatory submissions.
• Investigate field issues and implement corrective actions.
