Job summary

National Grid seeks a Lead Data Scientist to guide AI-enabled analytics for the Customer Performance Lab. The role spans Generative AI, ML, semantic modeling, and enterprise data platforms to transform how business users gain insights.

You will partner with Customer Operations, IT, and Business Transformation to drive AI adoption, modernize analytics, and deliver scalable value across datasets and transcripts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in a quantitative field such as Data Science, CS, or Applied Math.
• Strong Python development skills with production analytics and AI experience.
• Experience with enterprise AI technologies, LLMs, and API integrations.
• Experience with RAG, vector search, knowledge stores, and machine learning.
• Experience deploying solutions through APIs, dashboards, or enterprise reporting.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize Retrieval-Augmented Generation solutions that combine AI with enterprise data.
• Build AI knowledge architectures including vector stores and semantic models.
• Develop reusable AI skills, copilots, and prompt frameworks for analytics workflows.
• Drive AI cost optimization while maintaining performance and accuracy.
• Collaborate with Engineering to deploy AI capabilities in dashboards and apps.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying RAG solutions.
• Work with vector databases, embeddings, and semantic search.
• Integrate LLMs via APIs (OpenAI, Snowflake Cortex, Databricks, etc.).
• Apply prompt engineering and evaluation frameworks to reduce hallucinations.
