Edge Case Research, Inc. seeks a Principal System & AI Safety Engineer to redefine how we assure autonomous and AI-enabled systems.

You will apply Guardian AI to complex customer programs, identify repeatable hazards, and collaborate with product teams to turn expert knowledge into scalable safety capabilities. This role blends deep technical credibility with entrepreneurial energy, enabling you to influence product direction, safety architectures, and digital safety cases while advancing AI

Qualifications

Strong track record of system safety for high-consequence programs.
Experience with safety analyses such as PHA, FHA, SHA, FTA, FMECA, STPA, and HARA.
Experience with MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, ISO 26262, ISO 21448/SOTIF, ARP4761, or DO-178C.
Ability to translate expert knowledge into scalable safety products and workflows.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Lead system safety work for autonomous and complex systems.
Use Guardian AI to accelerate analyses such as PHA, FHA, SHA, FTA, FMECA, STPA, and HARA.
Critically evaluate AI-generated outputs for rigor, traceability, and alignment with standards.
Prototype workflows and partner with software team to transform insights into Guardian AI capabilities.
Advise customers on CONOPS, ODDs, hazard controls, and safety requirements.
Help move the field forward through publications, standards, and conferences.
Mentor engineers and foster a culture of rigor, experimentation, and ownership.
