U.S. Bank is seeking a Principal AI Research Scientist to join the AI Center of Excellence to advance the bank's AI strategy from research to enterprise deployment. The role blends deep scientific expertise with software engineering and requires leadership across the full R&D lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will drive innovation in generative AI, LLMs, and agentic systems while delivering scalable, compliant AI capabilities in a highly regulated financial services setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Eight or more years of AI/ML research, development, and deployment.
• Strong programming skills in Python and modern AI/ML frameworks.
• Demonstrated experience deploying AI/ML solutions in production environments.

Responsibilities

• AI Research & Innovation: Monitor, evaluate, and experiment with emerging AI technologies and industry trends, especially generative AI, LLMs, and multimodal AI.
• Prototyping & Solution Development: Build prototypes and production-ready AI solutions across the lifecycle.
• Generative AI & Agentic Systems: Lead development using foundation models, RAG, fine-tuning, and agentic workflows.
• Deployment & Technical Leadership: Partner with engineers to transition prototypes to production and provide technical leadership.
