Job summary

Empirical is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to design and govern the safety and governance layer for AI-powered development pipelines. You will own conventions, gates, identities, and measurements that ensure AI-generated code is safe to merge.

Based in Latin America with daily collaboration with a U.S.-based engineering team, you will lead complex automation while maintaining rigorous security and reliability standards.

Qualifications

• Extensive software engineering background with 10+ years.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and platform tooling.
• Strong security instincts and least-privilege mindset.
• Excellent English communication, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Own the knowledge plane: conventions, agent procedures, and source indexing.
• Build gates that verify what happened rather than trusting agent outputs.
• Design authority and identity with least-privilege credentials.
• Calibrate autonomy tiers to balance risk and automation.
• Engineer containment with circuit breakers and rate limits.
• Own intake, deduplication, routing, and evaluation logs.
• Lead improvement rituals with incident records and patterns.
