Job summary

Amalgamated Bank seeks an experienced Senior AI Engineer to lead hands-on development of governed, auditable AI agents on the Databricks platform. The role blends production engineering with architectural judgment to translate business needs into scalable AI capabilities in a regulated environment.

You will design, build, test, deploy, and operate agents, MSPs, and tools while ensuring compliance, observability, and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or related field; Master's preferred.
• 7+ years in software, data, or ML engineering with 2+ years delivering LLM/agent-based solutions.
• Experience delivering agentic capabilities in regulated environments; financial services preferred.
• Strong Python and SQL with production experience on Databricks stack.
• Experience with MCP clients/servers, tool-calling workflows, and secure agent access.
• Strong prompt/context engineering, model selection, and cost/perf trade-offs.
• Experience collaborating with business teams to translate AI delivery to measurable outcomes.
• Understanding of AI governance, privacy, and data security in regulated settings.

Responsibilities

• Lead hands-on implementation of production agents and LLM apps on Databricks.
• Design, test, deploy, and operate production agents using RAG, tool calling, multi-agent, and human-in-the-loop patterns.
• Build MCP clients/servers and secure enterprise tool integrations.
• Drive model selection, evaluation design, and token usage optimization.
• Configure Databricks AI Gateway for access control, logging, and cost controls.
• Define agent identity, authorization, and auditable actions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across credit, lending, and relationship banking to align requirements.
• Manage backlog, drive adoption, and report KPI impact.
• Coordinate with BI to monitor agent cost, accuracy, performance, and outcomes.
• Work with security, risk, compliance, legal, and audit to establish governance and testing artifacts.
