Job summary

General Motors is seeking an Advanced Supplier Quality Engineering Lead to drive quality and manufacturability early in vehicle development. You will lead critical part readiness, align design with supplier capability, and manage risk across design, tooling, and production planning.

The role requires deep knowledge of automotive processes, APQP execution, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams and suppliers while traveling up to 25% domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, materials, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive assembly, stamping, manufacturing engineering, supplier quality, maintenance, or operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, facilities, process controls, verification procedures, and quality documentation.
  • Experience executing or supporting APQP, supplier development, program reviews, manufacturing readiness, and/or launch activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate complex quality and manufacturing problems, apply sound technical judgment, and drive effective solutions.
  • Ability to travel to supplier and GM locations up to 25% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Supplier Quality plan and Plan-For-Every-Part for critical parts from early design through matching.
  • Execute APQP activities and program reviews, establishing milestones, readiness criteria, risk visibility, owners, escalation paths, closure evidence, and fact-based program-health reporting for leadership.
  • Align product design intent with supplier manufacturing capability early enough to prevent late design changes, tooling rework, launch disruptions, and quality escapes.
  • Partner with Formability experts to assess critical parts, interpret results, and resolve risks before design release and supplier sourcing.
  • Review supplier assembly processes - including part sequencing, welding, clamping, datuming, checking fixtures, GD&T, tooling, and process quality.
