Job summary

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Lead, Systems Engineer (Acoustics Modeling & Simulation SME) on-site in Millersville, MD to advance underwater acoustics capabilities and MBSE-driven design integration. You will lead modeling efforts across sensor infrastructure, ACOMMS, and system performance analyses.

The role requires strong experience in ocean acoustics, end-to-end workflows, and leadership, with sign-on incentives and security clearance eligibility.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of underwater acoustic propagation modeling experience.
• 4+ years of experience developing end-to-end acoustic analysis workflows using propagation models and MATLAB.
• 3+ years evaluating acoustic system design including ocean propagation and noise properties.
• 2+ years applying acoustic modeling to operational underwater systems.
• 2+ years converting model outputs into engineering artifacts.

Responsibilities

• Review program objectives, system concept of operations, interfaces and operations.
• Define requirements flow-down and MBSE traceability for complex electronics systems.
• Develop models of sonar system performance based on ocean acoustics principles.
• Collaborate to produce system specifications, interface definitions, trade studies and detailed designs.
• Develop and coordinate engineering artifacts for design reviews and customer interactions.
• Support systems engineering execution across cost, schedule, and technical aspects.
• Validate modeling outputs against legacy tools and benchmarks for fidelity.
• Assess overall project risks and assist in risk mitigation planning.
• Analyze customer requirements and allocate performance specs across system elements.
• Design tests and plans, collect data, and produce analysis reports.
• Brief status/results to program teams and customers.
