Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a seasoned Regulatory Accounting leader to drive complex accounting issues and regulatory reporting within the Carolinas region. The role emphasizes GAAP and FERC compliance, SOX controls, and strategic process improvements.

The candidate will manage multiple high-visibility workstreams, collaborate with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and external auditors, and provide direction to the accounting team. On-site work is expected with strong data analytics capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other closely related discipline.
  • Five (5) years or more of increasingly diverse or complex experience in a related field in addition to degree.
  • Comprehensive and strategic knowledge of accounting and finance principles, practices, and procedures.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Solve complex regulatory accounting issues while ensuring compliance with GAAP, FERC, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Manage multiple high-visibility workstreams, including reporting Carolinas financial results to management.
  • Facilitate requests from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous process improvements across regulatory accounting functions for DEC and DEP activities.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Treasury, Rates & Regulatory, Tax, and external auditors.
  • Facilitate internal SOX testing and respond to data requests.
  • Provide leadership oversight and direction to accounting team members.
  • Oversee internal management reporting, regulatory deferrals, documentation, allocation processes, and transaction accounting treatment.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
  • Conduct detailed research and analysis on regulatory and accounting matters.
  • Document findings and implement practical solutions.
  • Communicate with leadership and cross-functional teams, proactively managing and escalating issues.
  • Lead projects, set priorities, and work on special projects.
  • Prepare reporting for management review and decision-making

Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other closely related discipline

  • Five (5) years or more of increasingly diverse or complex experience in a related field in addition to degree

  • Comprehensive and strategic knowledge of accounting and finance principles, practices, and procedures

  • Experience with financial systems including Wdesk, OneStream, PeopleSoft, CAPS Online, and advanced Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PowerBI

  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred

  • Graduate degree in Accounting, Business, or related fields preferred

  • Previous experience in utility or regulatory accounting environment preferred

  • Familiarity with rate making revenue requirements principles preferred

  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, including data analytics

  • Experience with FERC form preparation and other regulatory filings preferred

  • Public accounting or auditing experience preferred

  • Must live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility

  • Reliable, consistent transportation required

  • Must be able to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future

  • Ability to meet at least 3 days per week in the office after onboarding

  • Equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree is not available unless grandfathered in and approved by CFO Staff


Demonstrates expertise in regulatory accounting, compliance with GAAP and FERC, and effective management of financial reporting processes. Proven ability to lead teams, drive process improvements, and communicate complex financial information to stakeholders.
