CenterPoint Energy is seeking a Distributive Controls System Electrician to join our Power Supply team. You will support safe, reliable power generation by performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, control, and instrumentation systems across the power plant.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field; 1–5 years of electrical maintenance experience in industrial/plant setting.
• Strong knowledge of electrical and DCS/PLC control systems; instrumentation calibration procedures.
• Ability to read electrical prints/schematics and fault diagnose from P&IDs.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, and maintain DCS hardware, controllers, I/O modules, and networks.
• Diagnose and repair control loops, VFDs, MCCs, and process controllers.
• Calibrate, test, and repair field devices (transmitters, actuators, control valves).
• Read P&IDs, schematics, and blueprints to isolate faults.
• Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs.
• Document maintenance activities using computer systems.
• Collaborate with operations and maintenance to implement safe modifications.
• On-the-job training is an essential function of this position.
• Follow safety rules around energized equipment, heights, and confined spaces.
• Be available for overtime and emergency call-outs.

Job Summary

CenterPoint Energy is looking for a Distributive Controls System Electrician to join our Power Supply team. In this role, you will support safe, reliable power generation by performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, control, and instrumentation systems across the power plant. This position includes scheduled and emergency call-out overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

You will have the ability to: install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the automated electrical control systems that power and regulate our plants.

Essential Functions

• Inspect, test, and maintain DCS hardware, redundant controllers, input/output (I/O) modules, and communication bus networks
• Diagnose and repair hardware malfunctions in automated control loops, variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor control centers (MCCs), and process controllers.
• Calibrate, test, and repair field devices including transmitters (pressure, temperature, flow, level), electronic actuators, and position-sensing control valves.
• Read and interpret complex loop sheets, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), electrical schematics, and blueprints to isolate faults.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repair of plant electrical equipment and related systems as needed.
• Document maintenance activities and complete required data entry/retrieval using computer-based systems.
• Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and other plant personnel to safely implement logic modifications, system upgrades, and loop tuning without interrupting plant execution.
• On the job and formal training is a continuous and essential function of this position
• Follow all safety rules, procedures, and permitting requirements, including working safely around energized equipment, heights, and confined spaces.
• Be available for scheduled and emergency call-out overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Education Description

• Associate degree in Electrical Technology (or related field) or equivalent job-related experience.
• 1-5 years of job-related electrical maintenance experience in an industrial, power generation, or process environment.
• Job-related formal training/experience equivalent to 2 years.

Experience

• Strong knowledge of electrical and DCS(Distributive Control systems)/PLC controls systems.
• Experience with instrumentation and calibration procedures.
• Experience with Communication Protocols such as: DNP3, Modbus, Profibus and SCADA
• Ability to read and interpret electrical prints and schematics.
• Ability to use a computer for email, familiar with - MS Word\Excel and data entry/retrieval.
• Ability to work safely outdoors in varying conditions (hot, cold, wet, humid, noisy, dusty).
• Ability to enter confined spaces, work at heights, climb stairs and ladders, and perform physical tasks including stooping, bending, crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Availability to work overtime and respond to emergency call-outs as business needs require.
• Power plant electrical maintenance experience.
