POSITION SUMMARYThe LCDC Counselor counsels and aids individuals and families requiring assistance dealing with substance abuse problems, such as alcohol or drug abuse. The LCDC interviews clients, reviews records, administers assessments and screenings, and confers with other professionals to evaluate condition of client. The LCDC counsels clients individually or in group sessions to assist clients in overcoming alcohol and drug dependency. The LCDC Performs skills trainings and acts as a role model for clients. This position will conduct substance abuse didactic and educational sessions for clients who need such services.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESPrepares confidential correspondence in a professional style and formatPerforms the twelve (12) core functions of counseling as defined by the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug AbuseMaintains effective filing system and files necessary information according to Agency and DSHS policies and proceduresProvides client transportation to activities in a safe and appropriate mannerDocuments all activities provided to clients according to Agency standards and procedures in EMR systemPrepares monthly reports in a timely manner as requested by supervisorPrepares time reports and mileage accurately and on timeConducts community presentations as necessaryAttends all staff meetings and trainings as assigned by supervisorServes as an advocate for the clients at all timesProvides curriculum-based prevention/intervention programs in assigned schools as directed by supervisorCommunicate with community members, such as clients, general public, and other service providers in a friendly, cooperative and professional manner, conducting presentations as necessaryAssists with letters of agreements for grantsReports any emerging trends or unusual situations to supervisorAssists in monitoring the quantitative goals and targeted risk groups to assure compliance with grant requirementsFacilitates admission (into program) and/or referral (e.g., inpatient treatment, mental health counseling) to appropriate services to assist clientsThe above information is intended to describe the most important aspects of the job.
