Role Description

The LCADC/CADC bilingual Substance Use Counselor is a full-time, on-site role based in Elizabeth, NJ. This position provides direct counseling services to individuals with substance use disorders, including intake assessments, treatment planning, and individual and group counseling. The counselor maintains accurate clinical documentation, coordinates care with internal and external service providers, and supports clients in accessing needed resources. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting evidence-informed interventions, facilitating psychoeducational groups, participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, and maintaining compliance with state and agency regulations. The counselor uses bilingual skills to deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate services and to build strong therapeutic relationships with diverse clients.

Qualifications

• Active LCADC or CADC credential in New Jersey, with good standing.


• Bilingual proficiency (English and Spanish) sufficient to provide counseling and documentation.


• Experience in substance use counseling, including assessment, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, and relapse prevention.


• Knowledge of evidence-informed practices in addiction treatment, community resources, and referral processes.


• Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a caseload and meet deadlines.


• Ability to provide services that are culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental.


• Comfort working in a multidisciplinary team and collaborating with external partners such as healthcare providers and social service agencies.


• Basic computer skills for electronic health records, email, and standard office applications.


• High ethical standards, confidentiality, and adherence to professional codes of conduct.


• Relevant education in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field; bachelor’s degree preferred.


• Prior experience in community-based or nonprofit settings is beneficial.
