Job summary

Walashek Industrial & Marine Inc. is seeking a skilled mechanical technician for industrial and marine repair work.

The role requires reading blueprints and technical manuals to weld metals, and performing ship repairs in open-air or confined spaces. Candidates should have 2+ years Navy ship repair experience, the ability to work independently under deadlines, and be eligible for DBIDS/TWIC credentials; a valid driver’s license and pre-employment drug screen are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; mechanical role experience preferred.
• 2+ years Navy ship repair experience required.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings and technical manuals to weld metals.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• DBIDS/TWIC credential eligible.

Job description

Required Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or Certificate from a college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience in mechanical role preferred.
• Industrial and/or marine advanced mechanical experience preferred:

• Journeyman 1: 1-3 years
• Journeyman 2: 3-5 years
• Journeyman 3: 5+ years

• 2+ years Navy ship repair experience (shipyard, contractor, government)
• Ability to comprehend and utilize blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals to weld metals
• Must have strong work ethic, be self-motivated, and able to multitask
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment with ongoing deadlines
• Must be able to work independently
• Understanding of Ship repair industry
• Must be DBIDS/TWIC credential eligible
• Must possess a valid driver's license
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test

Preferred Experience:

• LCAC/SSC experience preferred

Working Conditions:

• Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in an office-controlled environment.
• May have work in confined spaces.
• Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE when required.
• Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching, climbing up ladders, and over obstructions such as scaffolding and internal craft structural members to perform work.
• 50lbs. of lifting may be involved.
• Some travel may be required
