Job summary

Fairlead Integrated, LLC. seeks a skilled marine mechanic in Newport News, VA to install, repair, and maintain heavy equipment per drawings and blueprints.

Under limited supervision, you will align, test, and commission machinery, train junior staff, and support shipyard operations with hands-on mechanical know-how and safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/equivalent/Apprenticeship Diploma/additional vocational courses or technical school graduate; and/or military and/or civilian experience with marine mechanical systems in a repair department or shipyard.
  • 4+ years related work experience.
  • Experience involves both on-the-job and informal training with experienced workers.
  • Mechanical aptitude and skills.
  • Active listening, effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret layouts, blueprints, and other technical specifications.
  • Able to read, hear, and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, inspect, and replace defective parts of machines and/or equipment or adjust clearances and/or alignment of moving parts.
  • Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, feeler gauges, dial indicators, and various electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Performs installation, repair, overhaul, or modifications in place or in shop to mechanical systems and components(e.g.; Valves, actuators, cylinders, accumulators, valves, pumps, fairleads, etc.).
  • Tags, labels, marks, or match marks components prior to removal and organizes on delivery to shop or signs GFM paperwork on delivery to GFM.
  • Perform splash checks, operational testing, and attend sea trials and government checkpoints.
  • Connects power unit to machines or steampiping toequipment, and testunitto evaluate its mechanical operation.
  • Repairs andlubricatesmachines and equipment.
  • Performs blue fitting and component lapping/grinding.
  • Assembles and installs equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Insertsshims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
  • Moves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
  • Attaches moving parts and subassemblies to basic assemblyunit, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Supports other trades asrequiredto include assisting in fabrication, rigging, docking, fire watching, pipe fitting, preservation, disassembly, reassembly and inspection of mechanical and electrical equipment, systems, and components.

Summary:
