Job summary

Butte County is seeking a Deputy Sheriff Trainee to begin a career in law enforcement and complete the POST Academy requirements. The role is entry-level and includes training, background checks, and progression through the probationary period.

Incumbents will support Sheriff’s Office operations, participate in the basic academy, and learn essential procedures while assisting various county agencies and partners. A strong commitment to public safety is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Applicant must be 20 1/2 years of age at the time of application and 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
• Applicants must pass a thorough background investigation including polygraph, psychological examination, fingerprinting, and records check; medical examination required.

Responsibilities

• Attends a basic POST Academy course of study to gain peace officer status.
• May attend orientations on Sheriff’s Office operations.
• Assists in routine Sheriff’s Office functions as directed.
• Interacts with Sheriff’s Office personnel, County departments, outside organizations and businesses to accomplish tasks.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
