Job summary

Butte County is seeking an entry-level Deputy Sheriff Trainee. The role requires completion of the POST Academy to attain peace officer status and qualify for probationary completion. Candidates must be able to pass a thorough background check, be at least 21 years old by appointment, and meet medical and color-vision requirements.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Applicant must be 20.5 years old at application and 21 at appointment.
Background investigation, polygraph, and medical review required.
Valid US driver’s license at application; California license after hire.
First Aid and CPR certification must be obtained by end of probation.

Responsibilities

Attend a basic POST Academy course of study to gain peace officer status.
May attend Sheriff’s Office orientations and related briefings.
Assist in routine Sheriff’s Office functions as directed.
Interact with Sheriff’s Office personnel, County departments, outside organizations, and law enforcement bodies to complete tasks.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
