Job summary

The Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation seeks an entry-level Park Ranger for Beavers Bend State Park. You will patrol grounds, enforce laws, and ensure visitor safety across park properties and related facilities.

Responsibilities include traffic enforcement, investigations, court appearances, and providing security for staff and resources. A CLEET certification and valid Oklahoma driver’s license are required. Position is full-time and requires flexible hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must have Peace Officer CLEET certification or out of state/federal equivalent.
• Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
• Be in sound physical and psychological condition as evidenced through the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department's screening process
• Pass a pre-employment drug test and polygraph
• Pass Oklahoma Law Enforcement Retirement System physical
• Pass a rigid character and background investigation

• Conducts investigations; issues warnings and written citations; makes arrests; seizes and secures property and/or contraband; writes detailed reports; and completes appropriate documentation.
• Represents the agency in court during legal proceedings; provides testimony or presents evidence as required; and assists other law enforcement agencies.
• Provides security and protection to the public and Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department staff, state property, and natural resources.
• Provides first aid to injured person(s) as necessary.
• Develops or assists in developing policies and procedures to ensure all Rangers are properly trained.
• Develops or assists in developing the departmental budget.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support park operations.

The starting pay for this position is $19.81/hr. After successful completion of a one-year trial period with OTRD, the rate of pay may increase to $21.78/hr.

Job Description

Basic PurposePositions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving patrolling park/resort grounds and property and the enforcement of laws, rules and regulations within the assigned area of responsibility. This includes ensuring the safety and welfare of park/resort visitors and assigned staff. This is the entry level and is a non-supervisory position assigned patrol duties (all aspects) within Oklahoma State Parks, resort grounds, and other state properties. Park Rangers regularly work with other State and Federal law enforcement agencies. The primary focus of this position is the enforcement of Oklahoma state traffic and criminal laws, Federal law, and park rules and regulations.

Special Requirements

• Within one year of hire, selected person must complete OTRD's in-house Field Training Officer Program.
• This position will require working irregular hours under any conditions.
• Some positions may require statewide travel.
