Job summary

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office recruits for deputy trainees who will start with an academy orientation, followed by an academy and post-academy training. The office covers books, materials, and uniforms during training, with pay and full benefits.

After completion, recruits are sworn in and earn the salary of a certified Law Enforcement Deputy. Selected candidates will patrol assigned areas, respond to emergencies, investigate incidents, and maintain evidence and reports.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years of US military duty (active or reserve) required.
• Two consecutive years of current full-time HCSO employment accepted as alternative.
• Associate degree or 60 semester or 90 quarter hours toward a bachelor’s degree accepted.
• 21+ years old, US citizen, good moral character, and 6 months tobacco/nicotine free at time of application.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas and monitor for criminal activity; interrogate suspicious persons.
• Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance.
• Investigate incidents for civil or criminal law violations.
• Apprehend and arrest suspects to ensure public safety.
• Prepare and preserve evidence; testify in court when required.
• Transport prisoners to court, medical, or facilities; maintain equipment.
