Overview

Position Summary:

As a Law Clerk at Mercury Insurance Group, you will provide support for trial attorneys. Your support includes drafting initial pleadings and discovery, responding to discovery, summarizing medical records and discovery, research, law and motion, preparation of trial documents, trial support, Small Claims Court trials and other specific assignments. This is an entry-level position wherein the law clerk will gain extensive knowledge of civil litigation from initial file assignment through posttrial procedures.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Preparation of initial pleadings and discovery.Preparation of discovery responses.Summarize discovery responses and medical records.

Legal research and preparation of motions and oppositions to motions.Preparation of trial documents including motions in limine and providing trial support.Assist the insured in small claims court cases by investigating the facts in order to prepare trial briefs, prepare the insured for trial, attend trial and defend the company when named in a Small Claims Court action.

Position is primarily remote but on occasion may need to go into a local office in Southern CA

Hours: Monday - Friday, full or part time options available

Other miscellaneous tasks as may be necessary to adequately defend the insured and/or improve department processes.

Qualifications

Education:

• Minimum: Completion of 2nd year law school.
• Preferred: Juris doctor degree

Knowledge and Skills:

• Minimum: Effective communication, persuasion, writing and analytical skills. Completion of torts, evidence and civil procedure preferred. Must meet established company standards regarding personal driving history and current license status to be eligible for position. Requires automobile travel, up to 20% of work time. Must reside in the geographic region where office is located.

• Preferred: Exceptional communication, persuasion, writing and analytical skills. Completion of torts, evidence, civil procedure, remedies, and trial advocacy preferred. Must meet established company standards regarding personal driving history and current license status to be eligible for position. Requires automobile travel, up to 20% of work time. Must reside in the geographic region where office is located.
