Job summary

OC Parks is seeking a Park Maintenance Worker I to perform routine grounds and facility maintenance across Orange County’s parks. The role includes cleaning amenities, landscape and hardscape upkeep, trash management, custodial tasks, and operating small equipment.

Strong emphasis on safety and customer service while supporting public park visitors. Ideal candidates will have experience in landscaping, basic plumbing/masonry/carpentry, tool use, and the ability to follow maintenance procedures

Qualifications

  • Experience with landscaping and lawn care.
  • Experience with basic plumbing, masonry, and carpentry work.
  • Experience with hand and power tools used in facilities and ground maintenance and repair.
  • Understanding and following maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Understanding instructions and carrying out tasks verbally and in writing.
  • Operating equipment safely and following SOPs.
  • Providing excellent customer service to park visitors.

  • Cleaning and inspecting amenities such as bathrooms, offices, or outdoor areas.
  • Performing hardscape and landscape maintenance, including debris removal, vegetation management, weed control, washing, raking, or concrete patching.
  • Removing trash bags or litter and maintaining trash receptacles.
  • Providing general custodial services, including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and cleaning.
  • Operating and maintaining small equipment.
  • Performing administrative and customer service tasks, including public contact.

PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER I

Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and the successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

This recruitment will establish an open eligible list that will be used to fill current and future Park Maintenance Worker I positions. The eligible list established may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

DEADLINE TO APPLY

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Park Maintenance Worker I position performs routine unskilled and semiskilled grounds maintenance, landscape, facility maintenance, and repair work.

Responsibilities and duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Cleaning and inspecting amenities such as bathrooms, offices, or outdoor areas
  • Performing hardscape and landscape maintenance, including debris removal, vegetation management, weed control, washing, raking, or concrete patching
  • Removing trash bags or litter and maintaining trash receptacles
  • Providing general custodial services, including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and cleaning
  • Operating and maintaining small equipment

CORE COMPETENCIES
Technical Knowledge
  • Experience with landscaping and lawn care
  • Experience with basic plumbing, masonry, and carpentry work

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Applicants who meet qualifications will be invited to participate in one or more job-related assessments. Applicants will be notified of their test date and access code, if applicable.

Only the most qualified candidates will advance to the next step in the recruitment process or will be placed on the eligible list.

Eligible List

Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies. Based on the County's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedures.
