Job summary

Georgia Regional Hospital - Atlanta, part of the Georgia State Government, is seeking a Laundry Attendant to perform routine housekeeping and laundry duties to maintain a clean, sanitary environment for patients and staff.

Under supervision, you will operate laundry equipment, handle linens, and ensure proper distribution while following safety and infection-control guidelines. Prior experience in healthcare laundry is preferred, and a valid driver’s license may be required in some shifts.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in housekeeping or a related area, or at the Housekeeper 1 level.
• Experience in a commercial, institutional, hospital, healthcare, or large-scale laundry environment preferred.
• Experience operating commercial laundry equipment and knowledge of sanitation procedures.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established procedures.

Responsibilities

• Collect soiled linens, clothing, towels, and other washable items from designated areas.
• Sort laundry by fabric type, color, and soil level.
• Operate commercial washers, dryers, and related laundry equipment safely.
• Measure and use detergents, disinfectants, and cleaning products per guidelines.
• Fold, organize, label, and distribute clean linens and clothing to appropriate areas.
• Maintain inventory of linens and laundry supplies and report shortages.
• Inspect items for stains, damage, or wear and remove unsuitable items.
• Keep laundry work areas and equipment clean and sanitary.
• Follow infection-control, sanitation, safety, and hazardous-material handling procedures.
• Report equipment malfunctions or unsafe conditions to supervision.
• Maintain separation of clean and soiled laundry to prevent contamination.
• Provide courteous and professional service when interacting with staff and facility personnel.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Description

Under general supervision, performs routine housekeeping and laundry-related duties to maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and an orderly environment within the facility. Ensures linens, clothing, and other washable items are properly collected, cleaned, dried, folded, stored, and distributed in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.

Job Responsibilities

• Sorts laundry according to established procedures, fabric type, color, and level of soil.
• Operates commercial washers, dryers, and other laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
• Measures and uses appropriate detergents, disinfectants, and other cleaning products according to established guidelines.
• Folds, organizes, labels, stores, and distributes clean linens and clothing to appropriate areas.
• Maintains accurate inventory of linens and laundry supplies and reports shortages as needed.
• Inspects laundry items for stains, damage, or excessive wear and removes unsuitable items from circulation when appropriate.
• Maintains laundry work areas and equipment in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition.
• Follows infection-control, sanitation, safety, and hazardous-material handling procedures.
• Reports equipment malfunctions, maintenance concerns, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
• Maintains appropriate separation of clean and soiled laundry to prevent contamination.
• Provides courteous and professional service when interacting with staff, patients, residents, and other facility personnel.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• One (1) year of experience in a related area of assignment; OR one (1) year of experience at the lower-level Housekeeper 1 (FES040) or equivalent position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a commercial, institutional, hospital, healthcare, or large-scale laundry environment.
• Experience operating commercial laundry equipment.
• Knowledge of proper sanitation, infection-control, and safety procedures.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established work procedures.
• Ability to perform repetitive physical activities, including standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and transporting laundry carts.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated reliability, attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
