Job summary

Hilton Durham near Duke University is seeking a Laundry Attendant to ensure efficient retrieval, processing and distribution of laundry for guests. The role includes operating ironing and folding machines, sorting items, and keeping work areas clean.

Because the hotel operates around the clock, shifts vary and flexibility is required. Training is provided; no previous experience is required. Physical stamina is essential, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Sort stained/damaged items and determine status for rewash or discard; maintain inventory of discarded items.
• Operate the ironing and folder machines according to specifications, while processing cleaned articles through the machines.
• Fold cleaned articles and stack into designated amounts by type and size; place stacks in distribution areas.
• Remove lint and debris from dryer filters as specified in procedures.
• Use cleaning chemicals according to OSHA regulations and hotel requirements.
• Check the working condition and cleanliness of laundry machinery.
• Monitor usage of chemicals and water to maximize consumption.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas throughout shift.
• Restock work areas for next shift as assigned.
• Turn in lost and found items and guest room keys.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• Follow safety and security procedures and rules.
• Know department fire prevention and emergency procedures.
• Utilize protective equipment.
• Report unsafe conditions to management.
• Report accidents, injuries, near-misses, property damage or loss to management.
• Provide a safe work environment by following all safety and security procedures and rules.
• Maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per handbook.
• Perform related duties as requested by supervisor/manager.
• Assist other Housekeeping Personnel when needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to Lift, Push & Pull up to (50) pounds required.
• Frequent bending while loading/unloading washers/dryers, sorting linen and folding.
• Continuous movement throughout department.
• Standing is required during the entire shift.
• Frequent twisting, bending, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing and smiling.
