Job Summary

The Laundry Aide is responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of clean linens, towels, clothing, and other washable items throughout the skilled nursing facility. This position ensures that resident clothing and facility linens are properly collected, sorted, washed, dried, folded, labeled, stored, and distributed in accordance with facility policies, infection prevention practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.

The Laundry Aide plays an important role in maintaining a clean, sanitary, comfortable, and homelike environment for residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Collect soiled linens and resident clothing from designated areas throughout the facility.

• Sort laundry according to established procedures, including appropriate separation of soiled and contaminated items.

• Operate commercial washers, dryers, and other laundry equipment safely and properly.

• Wash, dry, fold, hang, and organize linens and resident clothing.

• Ensure resident clothing is properly labeled and returned to the correct resident.

• Distribute clean linens and other laundry items to appropriate units and designated storage areas.

• Maintain appropriate linen supplies throughout the facility.

• Follow established infection prevention and control procedures when handling clean and soiled laundry.

• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

• Follow manufacturer instructions and facility procedures regarding laundry chemicals and cleaning products.

• Maintain laundry rooms, equipment, carts, and storage areas in a clean, sanitary, and organized condition.

• Keep clean and soiled laundry appropriately separated during handling, transportation, and storage.

• Report damaged equipment, safety concerns, missing resident clothing, or supply shortages to the appropriate supervisor.

• Assist with inventory of linens and laundry supplies as directed.

• Handle residents' personal belongings carefully and respectfully.

• Follow facility procedures for handling heavily soiled or potentially infectious laundry.

• Maintain resident privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.

• Follow all facility policies and procedures, including safety, infection prevention, resident rights, and emergency procedures.

• Participate in required training, in-services, and staff meetings.

• Work cooperatively with Environmental Services, Nursing, and other departments to meet resident and facility needs.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or facility administration.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Previous laundry, housekeeping, healthcare, long-term care, or environmental services experience preferred but not required.

• Ability to operate commercial laundry equipment or willingness to be trained.

• Ability to read and follow labels, safety instructions, and facility procedures.

• Ability to follow infection prevention and safety practices.

• Must demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Must be able to communicate effectively with residents, visitors, supervisors, and other staff members.

• Must meet all applicable facility, state, and federal employment requirements.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties may require:

• Standing and walking for extended periods.

• Frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and repetitive movements.

• Lifting and carrying laundry bags, linens, supplies, and other materials.

• Pushing and maneuvering laundry carts.

• Working in areas that may be warm, humid, or exposed to laundry chemicals.

• Using appropriate PPE when handling soiled or potentially contaminated materials.

Infection Prevention and Safety

The Laundry Aide must follow facility infection prevention policies and established precautions when handling, transporting, processing, and storing laundry. Clean and soiled items must be handled in a manner designed to minimize cross-contamination and protect residents and staff.

Resident Rights and Confidentiality

The Laundry Aide must treat all residents with dignity, respect, and consideration. Resident clothing and personal belongings must be handled carefully, and all confidential resident information encountered during the performance of job duties must be protected in accordance with facility policies and applicable requirements.
