Job description

JOB PURPOSE:

Tends laundering machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and personal articles of patients. Loads articles in washer and adds specified amount of detergent or other cleaning agents. Transfers wet articles from washer to wringer and dryer for measured cycles. Sorts dry articles by identification or type. Folds and stores items appropriately.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Folds and sorts laundry (blankets, sheets, towels, etc.) and personal clothing items.
2. Hangs clothes on racks according to name and numbers.
3. Delivers laundry to designated areas.
4. Ensures patient/resident clothes are ready, in good condition, and properly stored.
5. Understands functions of various soaps and bleaches.
6. Follows safety precautions as per MSDS for all chemicals.
7. Washes and dries clothes and linens.
8. Keeps equipment clean and adheres to cleaning schedules.
9. Maintains a clean and organized work area; sweeps and mops laundry area.
10. Reports repairs needed to maintenance.
11. Operates large filters following schedules.
12. Handles soiled laundry properly.
13. Disinfects linen carts as per policy.
14. Empties washers and dryers as needed.
15. Operates water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valves.
16. Follows proper stain removal procedures.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

High School Degree preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

On-the-job training provided.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Previous experience in healthcare laundering processes (preferred).
