Job summary

Norfolk Health & Rehabilitation Center in Norfolk, VA is seeking a qualified Laundry Aide to join our growing team. As a Laundry Aide, you'll help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff by processing linens and resident clothing to the highest standards.

Under the supervision of the Housekeeping / Environmental Services Director, you'll operate commercial washers and dryers, sort by type and soil, and ensure timely distribution of clean textiles.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Previous laundry experience in healthcare or long-term care desirable.
  • Ability to safely operate commercial laundry equipment.
  • Understanding of chemical handling and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of infection control and bloodborne pathogen precautions.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, sort, wash, dry, fold, and distribute linens and resident clothing.
  • Operate washers, dryers and laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Sort soiled items by type, color, and soil level.
  • Treat stains and pre-treat heavily soiled items.
  • Label and track resident clothing; return to correct rooms promptly.
  • Keep laundry area clean and organized; report equipment issues.

Norfolk Health & Rehabilitation Center in Norfolk, VA is seeking a qualified candidate to join our growing team as a Laundry Aide.

As a Laundry Aide, you'll play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our residents, visitors, and staff. Working under the direction of the Housekeeping / Environmental Services Director, you'll ensure all linens and resident personal clothing are processed and returned to the highest standards to help our center meet its commitment of providing Care Beyond Compare.

What You'll Do
  • Collect, sort, wash, dry, fold, and distribute facility linens and resident personal clothing in accordance with established procedures.

  • Operate commercial washers, dryers, and other laundry equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Sort soiled linens and clothing by type, color, and level of soil while following infection control and bloodborne pathogen standards.

  • Treat stains and pre-treat heavily soiled items as needed to ensure proper cleaning.

  • Label, track, and return resident personal clothing to the correct rooms in a timely manner.

  • Fold, hang, and organize clean linens and clothing for storage and distribution.

  • Maintain accurate inventory of linens and report shortages or damaged items to the supervisor.

  • Mix and use laundry chemicals and detergents safely and according to manufacturer guidelines and OSHA standards.

  • Keep the laundry room, equipment, and storage areas clean, sanitary, and organized at all times.

  • Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or maintenance needs promptly to the supervisor.

  • Follow all facility policies regarding infection control, bloodborne pathogens, and hazardous waste disposal.

  • Assist with general housekeeping duties as needed to support facility operations.

What You Need
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.

  • Previous laundry experience in a healthcare or long-term care setting preferred.

  • Ability to safely operate commercial laundry equipment.

  • Understanding of proper chemical handling and safety procedures.

  • Knowledge of infection control practices and bloodborne pathogen precautions.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, push laundry carts, and lift up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.

  • Ability to tolerate warm temperatures and humidity in the laundry environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, especially in sorting and tracking resident clothing.

  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
