Job summary

General Motors is looking for a dedicated Controls Systems Engineer to work onsite in Saginaw, MI. This full-time position involves managing complex projects throughout the vehicle development lifecycle while prioritizing safety. You'll utilize your expertise in PLC, HMI programming, and electrical/control systems.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of experience and a strong engineering background. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, project management, and supporting continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated technical knowledge of electrical/control systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work 3rd shifts and weekends as needed.

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to our Saginaw, MI location on a full-time basis. This is a 3rd shift position.

The Role:

The Controls Systems Engineer is an Individual contributor with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work you're doing throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, systems design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • PLC: Siemens /Allen Bradley
  • Robot/CNC: Fanuc Robotics / Siemens CNC / Fanuc CNC
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and significantly complex projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results.
  • Experience in PLC and HMI programming, Ethernet and/or DeviceNet network
  • Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of the electrical and control aspects of equipment and tools required for the production of high-quality castings.
  • Manage installation of various projects.
  • Existing program/site support Troubleshooting, diagnosis of equipment malfunctions, etc. Support the TIP (Throughput Improvement process) Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to learn new skills, and coach / Mentor others on Control related issues, using a hands on approach.
  • Supports business team in Business Plan Deployment (BPD) process.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and maintenance processes/procedures as well as quality control and environmental procedures is required.
  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the manufacturing process.
  • Ability to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems.

  • Bachelor’s degree with major in engineering and equivalent experience/training.
  • Variable Frequency Drive (VFD): Allen Bradley / Siemens
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Knowledge of high voltage power distribution
