Job summary

PDS Tech, Inc. is hiring a Lathe Machinist to set up and run multi-axis CNC lathes for precision aerospace components. You will read blueprints, interpret GD&T, and maintain tight tolerances across exotic alloys.

You will collect SPC data, perform tool changes, and contribute to continuous improvement while adhering to safety and quality standards. This is an on-site Bloomington, MN role.

Qualifications

• 2+ years CNC lathe experience required.

PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a leader in the manufacturing industry to hire an experienced Lathe Machinist for a direct hire opportunity. The Role

As a Lathe Machinist, you’ll set up, adjust, and operate multi-axis and multi-turret CNC lathes to produce high-quality aerospace parts safely, efficiently, and consistently. Your work will directly support customer quality requirements while helping minimize material waste and maximize productivity.

What You’ll Do

• Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of multi-axis and multi-turret CNC lathe machines.
• Read and interpret CNC code for twin-turret lathes with live tooling.
• Read and understand blueprints, layouts, job packets, and GD&T requirements.
• Calculate and adjust feeds and speeds to maintain tight tolerances across a variety of metals, including exotic alloys.
• Set, adjust, pre-set, and replace tooling as needed.
• Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to maintain quality and productivity standards.
• Collect and input SPC data using comparators, CMMs, Trimos, gauges, and other inspection equipment.
• Perform necessary secondary operations during machine cycle time, including deburring.
• Perform daily machine maintenance and promptly communicate maintenance needs beyond the scope of the Machinist role.
• Maintain accurate inventory counts and ensure parts and materials are stored appropriately.
• Follow established setup, operating, and safety procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work area.
• Identify opportunities to improve setup procedures, efficiency, and overall processes.
• Collaborate with team members across shifts and support personnel to achieve department quality and productivity goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of CNC machining experience with lathes.
• Ability to read and understand CNC programs and operational layouts.
• Strong blueprint-reading and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing skills.
• Knowledge of machining mathematics, manufacturing measurement techniques, and CNC processes.
• Understanding of tooling requirements, including tool setup and pre-setting.
• Ability to work independently and complete sequences of operations with minimal supervision.
• Proven ability to consistently meet established quality and production standards.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of machine-shop safety rules and regulations.
• Ability to plan effectively and execute daily work priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong PC skills, including experience with Microsoft products.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs. and stand for extended periods while working in a machine-shop environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two-year degree in Machining Technology or completion of a CNC machining trade-school program.
• Experience with multi-axis and multi-turret CNC lathes.
• Experience with twin-turret machines and live tooling.
• Experience machining tight-tolerance aerospace components.
• Experience working with exotic alloys.
• Experience with SPC processes and inspection equipment such as CMMs, Trimos, and comparators.
