Job Title

Latex Operator I Monday - Friday

Position Overview

This position is Monday - Friday 3pm-11pm.

Position Objective

To provide a continuous flow of secondary back into Coater and to monitor latex application on the secondary backing. Maintain latex pump and tank area.

Essential Duties

Maintaining continuous flow of secondary backing into Coater

Remove wrap and roll ticket from roll. Inspect backing for holes, tears, and cuts and make sure backing is not wet.

Align roll in cradle with yellow lines on the floor, making sure roll is turned in the right direction.

When the previous roll that is running on machine gets low (12-14” diameter), turn on J-box and run the rest of the roll into J-box. Call the Operator to let them know you are doing so. (This is called slack time)

When all of the roll is in the J-box, use the heat knife to trim the backing straight. This cuts the backing loose from the core.

Remove core inserts from both ends of the core and place in core buggy.

Use the ultrasonic seamer to sew the end of the new roll to the end of the old roll.

After seam is created, check to make sure the seam has no holes in it.

Move roll cradle forward and line up core inserts with core on both sides. Make sure to leave a space between core and insert. Push into core and lock down with T-handle locks on both sides. Raise roll.

Align and run enough backing into J-box to get the seam onto the main tenter.

Dispose of any scrap.

Record the length of previous roll from Trumeter on Backing Variance Sheet with roll number.

Occasionally inspect secondary backing as it goes into and out of the Tillotson applicator.

Monitoring Tillotson Machine

Ensure proper puddle volume.

Ensure backing is keeping tension while going through blade.

Maintain proper level in latex day tank.

Maintain proper level in thickener tote.

Manage Froth Machines

Make sure that the settings on the viscometer screen are as follows:

Power: On

Spindle Size: 07

Speed: 20 RPM

Ensure you are using spindle size 07 and that it is clean and dry.

On your froth viscosity chart, record the time, shift, line speed, injection ratio, and date.

With a 6-fluid ounce cup, retrieve a sample from the traverse filling the cup.

Place the cup of latex under the viscometer with the spindle attached.

Adjust the meter so that the ring on the spindle is even with the top layer of latex.

Turn meter on for 30 seconds then shut it off.
