Job summary

Sheppard Mullin, Richter & Hampton, a global Am Law 50 firm, seeks a Lateral Conflicts Analyst to analyze conflicts of interest and conduct in-depth factual research. The role supports the Manager of Lateral Conflicts and in-house counsel, utilizing internal and external resources to gather necessary information.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in conflicts administration, proficiency with iManage/LegalKey/Intapp, and strong writing and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience within conflicts administration at a mid to large-size law firm.
  • Experience with iManage, LegalKey, Intapp, or similar conflicts administration software.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Strong research skills using internal and external resources.
  • Ability to work independently with good judgment.
  • Understanding of professional conduct rules regarding conflicts of interest.

Responsibilities

  • Review conflict submissions and intake forms for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review searches and reports for candidates at various stages of recruiting and other new business.
  • Prepare written summaries or reports of key findings.
  • Monitor shared department email inbox for urgent requests.

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, a global Am Law 50 firm, has an immediate opening for a Lateral Conflicts Analyst.

We are considering candidates in any of our U.S. offices including Century City, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego (Del Mar), San Diego (Downtown), San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Washington DC. There is only one opening.

Job Summary
  • Analyze and summarize potential conflicts of interest for further review/resolution by Manager of Lateral Conflicts and in-house attorneys.
  • Conduct factual research using internal and external resources, which may include researching corporate relationships (using LexisNexis, D&B, web publications and similar public databases) and discussions with attorneys and/or legal support staff to gather information and/or clarification regarding a party or matter.
  • Perform conflicts research, database maintenance, data entry, and special projects, as requested.
  • Respond to inquiries timely and effectively.
Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with Manager of Lateral Conflicts and attorneys in the Office of General Counsel to research, analyze, and resolve conflicts of interest.
  • Review lateral candidate conflict submissions and intake forms and ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Review searches and reports for lateral attorney and non-attorney candidates at various stages of recruiting process, and/or other new business, using the Firm’s conflicts and intake databases.
  • Work together with other Lateral Conflicts Analysts to formulate email responses for reach out to non-partner lateral candidates regarding missing or incomplete information on conflict submissions.
  • Ability to articulate in writing the key findings in the form of a summary or report.
  • Monitor and address all incoming email to shared department email inbox for urgent requests.
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years’ experience within conflicts administration at a mid to large-size law firm
  • Experience with iManage, LegalKey, Intapp, or similar Conflicts administration software
  • Basic typing skills (at least 40 wpm)
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to compile, review, filter, synthesize, and interpret information which is varied in content and format.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and make decisions when appropriate
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the applicable rules of professional conduct regarding conflicts of interest
  • Strong research skills using internal and external resources
  • Proven aptitude to quickly learn new applications
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to produce a high quality and accurate work product with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively with attorneys and staff at all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with lateral conflicts administration at a mid to large-size law firm and/or clearing/resolving conflicts (i.e. reviewing engagement letters and contacting partners).

Computer/Software Knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with database search systems such as Elegrity (now iManage) E-VALUATE, Legal Key, and/or IntappOpen.
Work Environment
  • Working indoors with limited exposure to hazards (only those that customarily come up in working in a high-rise or office building).
  • Indoor office work environment in a cubical or like workstation.
  • You will be based in one of our local Sheppard offices but will be allowed to work from home.
  • You are required to come into the office on an as-needed basis.
  • After hours and weekend work will be required on occasion as the workload demands.

Compensation and Benefits
  • California: The salary range for this position is $75,000- $120,000 per year.
  • Illinois: The salary range for this position is: $75,000- $120,000 per year. This position is eligible for bonuses. This position is also eligible for medical, vision, and dental insurance. Please note that the foregoing compensation and benefit information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to Illinois Equal Pay Act.
  • Washington DC: The pay range for this position is: $75,000- $120,000per year. Medical, vision, and dental coverage is available, including coverage for dependents and domestic partners. Please note that the foregoing compensation and benefit information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position as of the time of this posting and is provided pursuant to the District of Columbia Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023.
