Job summary

Avalon Elementary School in St. Clair Shores, MI is seeking a part-time Latchkey Aide to support before and after school care. The position offers 1-5 hours per day based on student need, following LARA requirements and district expectations.

  • Willingness to adhere to all LARA licensing requirements, including initial and annual health and safety training and 18 hours of professional development per year.

  • Maintain and monitor the condition of Latchkey supplies, games, and activity materials to support a safe and organized environment.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Latchkey Supervisor during absences, ensuring continuity of program operations and adherence to policies.

Latchkey Aide - Avalon Elementary School – Based on student need

(Current schedule: 1 - 5 hours based on student need)

Job Goal: Monitor children within the Latchkey program while meeting all LARA requirements and adhering to district expectations.

Qualifications:

Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Employment Conditions:

  • Employees shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout their employment with the District.
  • Employees shall comply with all Board policies and applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including but not limited to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), applicable non-discrimination requirements, and related educational regulations.
  • Employees shall maintain all required certifications, training, and licensing requirements.
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent or designee may find appropriate and acceptable.

ADA Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and community agencies.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and maintain records, reports, and correspondence.
  • Ability to use computers, district software, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout school buildings and grounds for extended periods.
  • Ability to supervise and interact with students in a variety of school settings.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond appropriately during emergencies and student behavioral situations.
  • Ability to lift and/or move light to moderate materials and equipment as needed.
  • Ability to travel between district locations as required.
  • Ability to attend meetings, trainings, and school-related events that may occasionally occur outside the regular workday.

Terms of Employment:

Class II – hours per day based on student need.

Compensation:

Entrance Level: $14.02

Maximum level: $16.32

(Based on CBA language) Benefits and compensation in accordance with Paraprofessional Collective Bargaining Agreement.
