Job summary

Portland Public Schools seeks dependable, caring individuals to join the Latchkey team as Latchkey Aides. You will help provide a safe, engaging environment for students before and after school, supervising activities and supporting health and well-being as needed.

Qualifications include being 18+, passing district and state background checks, experience with children, strong communication, and completion of CPR/First Aid and related trainings.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older as per licensing requirements.
• Must pass all district and Michigan childcare background checks.
• Ability to work well with preschool/elementary children.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Dependable, flexible, and a team player.
• Must complete CPR/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, and annual training hours.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support students in the before- and after-school Latchkey program.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming, organized environment.
• Assist with activities, games, crafts, and programming.
• Apply program rules consistently and positively.
• Serve as a positive role model and protect student confidentiality.
• Assist with basic first aid and student health needs per district procedures.
• Follow all district policies and Michigan licensing requirements.

Portland Public Schools: Latchkey Aide

Portland Public Schools is seeking dependable, caring, and enthusiastic individuals to join our Latchkey team as Latchkey Aides. Latchkey Aides help provide a safe, positive, engaging, and welcoming environment for students participating in the District’s before- and after-school childcare program.

Interested candidates must possess the following:

• Must be at least 18 years of age in accordance with Michigan childcare licensing requirements
• Ability to successfully complete all required Portland Public Schools background checks
• Ability to successfully complete all State of Michigan childcare licensing background check requirements
• Experience working with preschool and/or elementary-aged children preferred
• Ability to work effectively and positively with children
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Dependable, flexible, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Must possess or be willing to complete all required training, including:
• CPR and First Aid certification
• Bloodborne Pathogens training
• Required annual childcare training hours
• Any additional training required by the State of Michigan or Portland Public Schools

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Apply program expectations and rules in a consistent, fair, and positive manner

• Effectively communicate and cooperate with students, parents/guardians, coworkers, and District staff
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding students and families
• Assist with basic first aid and student health needs in accordance with District procedures and required trainingFollow all Portland Public Schools policies and applicable State of Michigan childcare licensing requirements
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Position Details:

Position: Latchkey Aide
Reports To: Early Childhood Director
Schedule: Before school, approximately 6:30–8:45 a.m., and/or after school, approximately 3:30–6:00 p.m.
Compensation: In accordance with the Latchkey pay scale
