Job summary

Portland Public Schools is seeking dependable, caring individuals to join our Latchkey team as Latchkey Aides. Latchkey Aides help provide a safe, positive, engaging, and welcoming environment for students participating in the District’s before- and after-school childcare program.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age in accordance with Michigan childcare licensing requirements.
• Ability to successfully complete all required Portland Public Schools background checks.
• Ability to successfully complete all State of Michigan childcare licensing background check requirements.
• Experience working with preschool or elementary-aged children preferred.
• Ability to work effectively and positively with children.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Dependable, flexible, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Must possess or be willing to complete all required training, including CPR and First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, annual childcare training hours, and any additional State requirements.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support students participating in the before- and/or after-school Latchkey program.
• Help maintain a safe, welcoming, organized, and engaging environment for students.
• Assist with age-appropriate activities, games, crafts, and other programming.
• Apply program expectations and rules in a consistent, fair, and positive manner.
• Serve as a positive role model for students.
• Support the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students.
• Effectively communicate and cooperate with students, parents/guardians, coworkers, and District staff.
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding students and families.
• Assist with basic first aid and student health needs in accordance with District procedures and required training.
• Follow all Portland Public Schools policies and applicable State of Michigan childcare licensing requirements.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
