Job Description

Lake Area Technical College is seeking a dedicated and reliable full-time Custodian to join our facilities team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role involves performing routine cleaning tasks, minor maintenance, and ensuring that all areas of the campus are presentable and functional.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform daily cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
• Replenish supplies in restrooms and other areas as needed.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains, and minor repairs.
• Ensure all areas are safe for use by reporting any hazards, damages, or maintenance needs to the head custodian.
• Secure buildings by locking doors, and ensuring all windows and entry points are secure at the end of the shift.
• Assist with setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for events, meetings, and special occasions.
• Ensure event spaces are clean and ready for use.
• Perform basic groundskeeping tasks such as snow removal and maintaining outdoor areas as needed.
• Assist with seasonal tasks to ensure campus grounds are well-maintained year-round.
• Work closely with other custodial staff to ensure a cohesive and efficient operation.
• Communicate effectively with staff and faculty to address any cleaning or maintenance concerns.
• Other duties as assigned.

REPORTS TO: Head Custodian

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and best practices.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and standing for extended periods.
• Basic maintenance skills are a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and a positive, professional demeanor.
• Ability to operate floor and bathroom cleaning, waxing, and polishing equipment.
• Regular and punctual attendance is essential for this role, as it ensures the smooth operation of custodial services and contributes to maintaining a clean and safe environment for the entire campus community.
• Evening hours apply during the academic year, while day hours apply in the summer months. Evening hours will be 4 PM - 12:30 AM.
• Evening stipend $95/month.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve-month contract with salary/benefits set by the Watertown School Board. Hours, which will vary by season, are set by Lake Area Tech. Competitive benefits package including health, dental, generous leave policy, and South Dakota Retirement System eligibility through the Watertown School District.
