Job summary

Our Next Energy Inc. (ONE) is seeking a Laser Welding Engineer to lead welding process development and ownership at our Novi, MI site. The role focuses on laser, TIG, and MIG welding specifications across prototype and production environments.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on laser welding experience, knowledge of weld qualification methods, and the ability to define process capability while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure throughput, quality, and cost objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• Engineer: 1–2 years in welding process development; Sr. Engineer: 6+ years in welding engineering.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement laser, TIG, and MIG welding specifications across prototype and production environments.
• Define and standardize welding parameters, joint designs, and material compatibility requirements.
• Author weld release packages — parameter windows with limits, inspection plans, and reaction plans.
• Serve as the welding technical contact for assigned programs.
• Design and specify automated welding stations, including fixturing, tooling, and integration into production lines.
• Define weld process-capability requirements and support equipment evaluation before purchase.
• Partner with equipment vendors and internal teams to ensure systems meet throughput, repeatability, and quality requirements.
• Support FAT/SAT, commissioning, and ramp-up of welding equipment.
• Develop and execute weld qualification plans, including destructive and non-destructive testing methods.
