We are seeking a skilled Laser Weld Technician. The ideal candidate will have experience in operation and programming of high‑precision laser systems to create airtight, leak‑proof seals on metal components, while adhering to strict safety protocols. Key duties include setting up weld parameters (power, speed), welding, inspecting welds via microscope, conducting post‑weld leak tests, and performing routine maintenance on the laser equipment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Welding Operation: Set up, program, and operate automated or manual laser welding systems to create hermetic seals.
- Quality Inspection: Perform visual inspection using microscopes and utilize non‑destructive testing, such as perfluorinated fluid (gross leak) and Helium Leak Detection (fine leak), to ensure seal integrity.
- Material Handling: Work with materials such as aluminum, Cupronickel, and stainless steel, ensuring clean, contaminant‑free surfaces.
- Process Optimization: Adjust laser parameters (focus, pulse, speed) to troubleshoot defects and improve yield.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed production logs, weld parameters, and quality inspection records in compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, AS9100).
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on laser machinery and calibrate fixtures.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Experience: Proven experience with hermetic laser welding, preferably with fiber or Nd:YAG lasers. Experience working with a Unitek Precision Systems or an Amada Miyach ax5000 series is a plus.
- Technical Knowledge: Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Standards: Preferred familiarity with cleanroom environments and stringent quality standards (e.g., AS9100).
- Education: High school diploma; technical certificate or degree in welding/manufacturing is preferred. Ability and desire for continuous education of new hermetic laser seal technologies and techniques.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency with machine control software, HMIs, and MS Office.
- Collaboration: Ability to proficiently communicate and collaborate with team members, optimizing workflow and meeting production schedules. Ability to solve problems independently and collaboratively.
- Safety / Housekeeping: Knowledge of basic safety regulations and practices regarding welding operations. Ability to adhere to safety protocols and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to use a microscope for extended periods. Good hand‑eye coordination for handling small, delicate components.
