Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville, AL is seeking an experienced welder to perform laser welding on aluminum, steel, and alloys, following engineering drawings and quality requirements.

The role involves setting up and operating friction stir welding equipment, monitoring weld quality, and maintaining tooling; relocation may be provided and multiple shifts are available.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years experience in Laser welding.
• Understand blue print drawings and tolerances.
• Basic GD&T knowledge.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Responsibilities

• Performs welding on aluminum, steel, and alloy parts and assemblies to required tolerances using welding metals and metal alloys and precision blending using hand tools to prepare metallic surfaces for welding and non-destructive evaluation.
• Determines layouts and welds parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Monitors and verifies quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures.
• Joins metal parts to form a permanent bond.
• Welds metal components using standard equipment such as gas welders and gas torches; may use friction stir welding (FSW).
• Sets up and operates machines to create friction stir welds on launch vehicles.
• Performs periodic maintenance on machines with complex pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
• Uses precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and torque wrenches.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:

Performs welding processes on aluminum, steel, and alloy parts and assemblies to required tolerances using welding metals and metal alloys and precision blending using hand tools to prepare metallic surfaces for welding and non-destructive evaluation. Determines layouts and welds parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications. Monitors and verifies quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures. Joins metal parts to form a permanent bond. Welds metal components and parts using standard specialized equipment such as gas welders and gas torches and may also utilize friction stir welding (FSW) methods using solid-state joining. Uses electrical currents or friction to create heat and bond metals. Observes tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications. Set up and operate large, motion-controlled machines to create friction stir welds on launch vehicles. Perform periodic maintenance on machines with complex pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. Accurately use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and torque wrenches.
