Job summary

Light Materials seeks an outstanding experimentalist to own the science of our roboticized, laser-controlled materials processing technology in Sunnyvale. The role is hands-on, multidisciplinary, and critical to scaling our process for higher throughputs and new applications.

You will build diagnostics, run cutting-edge experiments, and iterate with engineers to shape future hardware and architectures. A PhD or equivalent experience is required, with strong optics and programming skills.

Qualifications

  • PhD in physics, materials science, or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong hands-on experimental skills and ability to design and run your own experiments.
  • Excellent technical fundamentals and proficiency with optics.
  • Experience with programming languages and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Operate laser-controlled materials processing and robotic system.
  • Build diagnostics and run experiments to extend throughput and new geometries.
  • Reconfigure software and hardware to prototype parts for early customers.
  • Identify architectural tradeoffs and set technical direction with engineers.
