Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) invites applications for Laser Postdoctoral Researcher in Advanced Photon Technologies to advance solid‑state laser tech, high‑energy/short‑pulse systems, and DOE‑scale diagnostics at the world‑class NIF facility.

The role requires a PhD in a related field, experience with high‑energy lasers, and strong experimental design and collaboration in a multidisciplinary team. Relocation and flexible schedules are available as part of LLNL’s benefits.

Qualifications

PhD required in laser/optics or related field.
Experience designing, building, and/or operating high‑energy (> mJ) solid‑state lasers.
Experience with short pulse laser technology, frequency conversion, nonlinear optics, fiber lasers, ultrafast lasers, short pulse laser diagnostics, and/or plasma physics.
Ability to perform as an innovative experimentalist with a broad range of experience in experimental design, techniques, and execution.
Experience developing and proposing independent research projects, including publication of peer‑reviewed literature.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively and present technical information.

Responsibilities

Conduct research and development in long and short pulse laser experiments including building, testing, fielding, and commissioning laser systems and diagnostics.
Design, implement, and analyze techniques in long and short pulse laser experiments including diagnostics.
Organize, analyze, and interpret experimental and simulation data; present findings through reports, visuals, and presentations.
Contribute to conception, design, and execution of research to address defined problems.
Conduct independent research and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to accomplish research goals.
Publish results in peer‑reviewed journals and present at external conferences.
Perform other duties as assigned.
