Job summary

Siskin Steel & Supply Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced laser operator to perform advanced production tasks on laser equipment in a manufacturing setting.

You will review blueprints, work orders, and specifications to select materials and set up the laser cutting unit safely, ensuring parts meet dimensions and tolerances. Responsibilities include operating lasers, adjusting speeds/feeds, performing precision measurements, conducting quality checks, maintaining equipment, and handling

Responsibilities

• Selects steel for processing based on work orders and customer specs.
• Sets up laser cutting unit including nozzle selection, speeds and feeds.
• Operates laser machines to process parts as workload requires.
• Adjusts cutting speed, depth and feed rates to meet tolerances.
• Measures parts with calipers, micrometers, scales and squares to verify accuracy.
• Performs in-process inspections for ISO-certified locations.
• Maintains equipment and workspace; cleans and safegards machines.
• Completes paperwork and restocks materials; marks pieces for traceability.
• Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

Job Summary

Responsible for performing advanced production activities on variety of laser machines.

Reviews blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.

Chooses correct material for the job according to work order.

Sets up laser cutting unit for safe operation by selecting appropriate nozzles and setting speeds and feeds.

Determines processing specifications such as materials, forms, sizes, surface conditions, material defects dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences.

Positions work pieces for processing (may operate a combination of different machines).

Operates laser machines during processing as required based on workload or business needs.

Adjusts controls to set cutting speed, depth, and feed rates.

Measures and examines pieces using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales, and squares to ensure conformance to specifications.

Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections.

Cleans equipment according to designated maintenance procedures.

Diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments and removes scrap from machine.

Coordinates and executes material handling.

Completes work order paperwork/documentation.

Restocks material.

May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing.

May mark material after processing and store material for additional processing and/or shipping.

Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.

All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Job Function

1. Selects steel:

a. Uses caution to avoid damage to the steel.

b. Uses tape measure and calipers to verify correct size of material.

c. Uses color code to verify composition and/or thickness of material.

2. Burns steel:

a. Sets up burner for best quality of cut.

b. Sets up burner for best efficiency of material use.

c. Ensures that all cuts are accurate, per customer order.

3. Returns steel to stock:

a. Marks all drops with heat numbers, other identifying numbers, and color codes to ensure the identity of the steel.

b. Uses caution to avoid damage to the steel.

4. Performs routine maintenance on burner and associated equipment.

5. Keeps table and entire area clean.

6. Ensures needed repairs are made promptly.

7. Performs all tasks safely; obeys all safety rules.

8. Performs other duties assigned by foreman as necessary to complete the shift.
