Job summary

Reliance, Inc. is seeking a Laser Operator to perform advanced production activities on laser machines. You will review blueprints and work orders, select materials, and set up the laser unit with appropriate speeds, feeds, and nozzles.

The role includes controlling operators, inspecting finished parts, and maintaining safety standards in a potentially ISO environment. You will measure parts with precision tools, document work orders, and assist with material handling and machine maintenance.

Qualifications

• Experience operating laser cutting equipment and adjusting settings.
• Ability to read blueprints and work orders to identify specs.
• Perform in-process quality checks and final inspections.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain clean, safe work area.

Responsibilities

• Set up laser cutting unit with correct nozzles, speeds, and feeds.
• Select materials per work order and determine processing specs.
• Position pieces, operate machines, and adjust controls as needed.
• Measure parts with calipers and micrometers to verify specs.
• Document work orders, restock materials, and maintain equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and address machine issues.

Job Summary

• Responsible for performing advanced production activities on variety of laser machines.
• Reviews blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
• Chooses correct material for the job according to work order.
• Sets up laser cutting unit for safe operation by selecting appropriate nozzles and setting speeds and feeds.
• Determines processing specifications such as materials, forms, sizes, surface conditions, material defects dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences.
• Positions work pieces for processing (may operate a combination of different machines).
• Operates laser machines during processing as required based on workload or business needs.
• Adjusts controls to set cutting speed, depth, and feed rates.
• Measures and examines pieces using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales, and squares to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections.
• Cleans equipment according to designated maintenance procedures.
• Diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments and removes scrap from machine.
• Coordinates and executes material handling.
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation.
• Restocks material.
• May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing.
• May mark material after processing and store material for additional processing and/or shipping.
• Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
• All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Job Function

1. Selects steel:

a. Uses caution to avoid damage to the steel.

b. Uses tape measure and calipers to verify correct size of material.

c. Uses color code to verify composition and/or thickness of material.

2. Burns steel:

a. Sets up burner for best quality of cut.

b. Sets up burner for best efficiency of material use.

c. Ensures that all cuts are accurate, per customer order.

3. Returns steel to stock:

a. Marks all drops with heat numbers, other identifying numbers, and color codes to ensure the identity of the steel.

b. Uses caution to avoid damage to the steel.

4. Performs routine maintenance on burner and associated equipment.

5. Keeps table and entire area clean.

6. Ensures needed repairs are made promptly.

7. Performs all tasks safely; obeys all safety rules.

8. Performs other duties assigned by foreman as necessary to complete the shift.
