Job summary

Mayville Engineering Company, Inc. is seeking a Laser Operator to join our precision manufacturing team. You will read job orders, set up parameters, and program the laser to produce parts per specifications.

The role requires basic computer skills, blueprint reading ability, and reliability. You will also participate in machine maintenance, mentoring take-off operators, coordinating nests, and ensuring accurate part verification.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, or 2–3 years related experience.
  • Basic computer understanding.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to train and work with others (Team Concept).
  • Reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Read job orders to determine programming requirements.
  • Set machine parameters and power settings.
  • Call up part number from computer to program machine.
  • Load steel into machine to cut part.
  • Check to print using measuring devices to determine part accuracy.
  • Perform part verifications.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance.
  • Perform simple laser programming.
  • Troubleshoot problems and adjust machine as necessary.
  • Assist Steel Shed Coordinator with unloading & receiving material and ordering.
  • Instruct laser take off operators.
  • Assist with nesting scheduling.
  • Schedule machine maintenance with Maintenance Department.
  • Cross-train Laser take-off and Laser Operator II employees as assigned by Supervisor.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What you will be doing as a Laser Operator:

  • Puts steel into machine to cut part.
  • Checks to print using various measuring devices to determine accuracy of part.
  • Perform part verifications.
  • Performs routine machine maintenance.
  • Performs simple laser programming.
  • Troubleshoots problems and adjusts machine as necessary to correct.
  • Assist Steel Shed Coordinator with unloading & receiving material as well as ordering
  • Instruct laser take off operators.
  • Assists with scheduling of nests.
  • Schedules machine maintenance with Maintenance Department.
  • Cross train Laser take-off and Laser Operator II employees as assigned by Supervisor.
  • All Other Duties as assigned
What it takes to be a Laser Operator with MEC:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or two to three years related experience
  • Computer understanding
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to train and work with others (Team Concept).
  • Reliability
