Job summary

Summit Truck Bodies, a division of Transwest, seeks a Laser Operator for our manufacturing facility in Wathena, Kansas. You will set up and run a Fiber Laser, read detailed instructions, and ensure parts meet specifications using gauges and measuring tools.

The role requires basic fabrication knowledge, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work under time pressures. We offer a comprehensive benefits package and continuous improvement opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Basic knowledge of fabrication machines and tools is needed.
• Ability to read gauges and other measurement tools.
• Ability to perform simple math calculations accurately.
• Attention to detail and ability to work with multiple priorities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust and operate the Fiber Laser to form parts per specs.
• Read and interpret detailed instructions to produce the desired form.
• Verify conformance of parts using gauges, square and tape measures.
• Document actions by completing production and quality forms.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and wear PPE as required.
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts with initiative.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Sets up, adjusts and operates Fiber Laser.
• Required to read and interpret detailed instructions to produce the desired form.
• Verifies conformance of work piece to specifications, using square, measuring tape, and angle finder.
• Documents actions by completing production and quality forms.
• Maintains a clean and safe work area, maintains and wears all required personal protective safety equipment.
• Participates in all continuous improvement programs by offering suggestions and exhibiting initiative in areas within direct control.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

• Requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping and stretching.
• Requires lifting up to 75 pounds frequently.
• Requires working in areas which are not ventilated or air-conditioned.
• Requires eye-hand coordination sufficient to operate machinery such as a forklift.
• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity.
• Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver's License with an MVR in good standing.
• Must have basic knowledge and understanding of fabrication machines and tools.
• Ability to efficiently use various hand and power tools.
• Ability to read gauges and other measurement tools.
• Ability to do simple math calculations.
• Keen attention to detail is required.
• Ability to work with multiple priorities and constant interruptions.
• Basic communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane.
• Ability to successfully pass a General Abilities Assessment and Post-offer background check, physical and drug screening.
