Position Overview

This is a lead-level role responsible for investigating and handling highly complex property claims. Responsibilities include determining liability, securing information, reviewing coverages, arranging appraisals, and settling claims. The role requires high competency and independence in all claim adjustment activities, primarily in the field, handling complex homeowner property claims. Preferred locations are in or around Minneapolis, MN (south, west, north). We are hiring for 2 positions. A fleet vehicle is provided, and reporting is to a Large Loss Senior Manager.

Work Environment & Compensation

This role is primarily home-based, with approximately 80% of the time spent working remotely or in the field. Occasional travel to office locations for meetings, training, or cultural events may be required.

Position Compensation Range: $86,000 - $142,000

Pay Rate Type: Salary

Note: Compensation varies based on job level and location. Relocation support is available for eligible candidates.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Investigate origin and cause of high-exposure claims by contacting relevant parties, checking for prior claims, and recognizing environmental exposures.
  2. Participate in High Damage Reviews to address coverage issues and exposure, handling claims in good faith.
  3. Manage both first-party and third-party claims across multiple policy types and endorsements.
  4. Conduct on-site inspections, evaluate damages, and negotiate claims with insureds, claimants, attorneys, and public adjusters.
  5. Respond to customer inquiries, make decisions, and close files efficiently.
  6. Interpret policies, leases, bylaws, declarations, articles, and contract coverages, applying them appropriately.
  7. Make independent decisions while recognizing when assistance is needed.
  8. Communicate claim process and status, answer questions, or redirect as necessary.
  9. Serve as a mentor and subject matter expert for less experienced adjusters.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Proven ability to handle multi-line claims, including first and third-party, across territories.
  • Experience providing customer-driven solutions and support.
  • Efficient handling of complex claims with extensive policy knowledge.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; ability to obtain state-specific licensing.
  • Travel up to 10%, with up to 75% during catastrophe events.
  • Physical ability to visit various environments, including climbing, lifting, and maneuvering objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in diverse conditions, including outdoor elements and noisy or hazardous environments.
Additional Qualifications
  • Advanced experience with Xactimate required.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in field property claims handling.
  • Experience handling claims over $50,000 preferred.
