Job Description Summary

Our large animal attendants play a vital role in the hospital performing a variety of duties including cleaning patient stalls, daily feeding, and general upkeep of hospital areas. They also operate a variety of motorized equipment including a dump truck, forklift, and tractor. Valid driver’s license required.


Job Description

Assist the nursing department, veterinary students on campus, and veterinary staff. The Large Animal Attendant has vital duties that help maintain the hospital, including patient care, teaching, and general hospital maintenance.


Hours

Dayshift: 5:00 am – 1:30 pm Mon-Fri. Including some weekends and holidays


Location

This position is located in Kennett Square, PA (Chester County), which is approximately 33 miles outside of Philadelphia. There is no public transportation to this location. You must have your own transportation.


Job Responsibilities


  • Perform general stall maintenance and cleanliness of patient areas, to include cleaning and disinfecting of stalls. Feed animals and monitor general health; report any unusual behavior

  • Operate a variety of motorized equipment, including forklift, tractor, and standard dump truck

  • Provide training and guidance to new and temporary Large Animal Attendants.

  • Perform cursory supervision of staff, as assigned by Supervisor

  • Meet the department’s Critical Competencies: Accountability, Initiative, and Service Orientation, and perform other duties as assigned; Contribute to a professional, safe, and efficient hospital environment

  • Assisting in patient recovery

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications


  • High School Grad/GE Degree and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Large animal handling experience required. Ability to operate a variety of motorized equipment including forklift, tractor and standard dump truck required. Ability to perform strenuous work and tolerate exposure to weather, chemicals and allergens required. Valid driver’s license required.
