Job summary

The YMCA of Honolulu is seeking a Language Arts Tutor to support students’ growth, engage youth through reading and writing, and act as a positive mentor. The role emphasizes creating a welcoming, collaborative learning space and coordinating enrichment activities for middle/high school youth.

Responsibilities include designing lessons, leading activities, mentoring junior staff, and contributing ideas to improve programs while aligning with HIDOE standards and YMCA values.

Qualifications

• Experience facilitating instruction with youth requiring academic intervention.
• Strong classroom management and group facilitation skills.
• Ability to design engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with standards.
• Willingness to support program activities and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement lesson plans and educational activities.
• Engage students with innovative methods to promote learning and positive habits.
• Create a positive work environment and mentor junior staff.
• Participate in quality improvement to uphold academic standards.
• Coordinate events and activities for student engagement.
