Job summary

CW Resources in Key West, FL, seeks a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to keep our landscaping fleet running. You’ll diagnose and repair John Deere tractors, zeroturn mowers, trailers, and light trucks to ensure daily operations continue smoothly.

Responsibilities include diagnostics, preventive maintenance, welding, inventory management, and crew training. A valid driver’s license and Real ID with base access eligibility are required; pay aligns with federal contract wages and benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, or Small Engine Technician.
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience repairing and maintaining tractors, mowers, trailers, trucks, and small engine equipment.
• Experience working in a landscaping, construction, municipal, or agricultural setting.
• Experience diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and best practices.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Valid RealID; ability to obtain/maintain government base access.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair John Deere tractors with flexwing mower attachments used for large-area turf maintenance.
• Service and maintain zero-turn mowers, pickup trucks, equipment trailers, and a water truck to keep them ready for daily use.
• Troubleshoot and repair small engine equipment such as trimmers, blowers, and chainsaws.
• Test and operate equipment after repairs to confirm proper function and safety.
• Perform welding or fabrication work to repair or reinforce equipment parts when needed.
• Manage inventory of tools, parts, and supplies; request replacements as needed.
• Assist with loading, unloading, and securing equipment for transport.
• Train or guide crew members on proper equipment operation and basic maintenance practices.
• Stay up to date on manufacturer service updates and technical bulletins.
• Conduct routine preventative maintenance on all mechanical and motorized landscaping equipment.
• Maintain accurate service logs documenting repairs and maintenance performed.
• Coordinate with landscaping crews and supervisors to schedule maintenance with minimal downtime.
• Ensure all equipment meets company and regulatory safety standards.
