Job summary

SAN ANTONIO RIVER AUTHORITY is seeking a Landscape Technician I to maintain vegetation and public spaces along the Mission Reach, Museum Reach and San Pedro Culture Park in San Antonio, TX. The role involves operating and maintaining landscape equipment, applying basic irrigation maintenance, and ensuring safety policies are followed.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of landscape labor or equipment operation experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED with 1 year landscape equipment experience required.
• Ability to obtain Handlers Verification Card within 6 months.
• Texas Parks & Wildlife Boater Safety card and CPR/First Aid within 1 year.
• Confined space entry certification within 1 year.
• Valid driver?s license with insurable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Maintains formal plant communities; removes weeds, clears brush, mows, trims, prunes, plants, seeds, irrigates, digs, and rakes public areas. Implements corrective actions as needed including irrigating, and/or applying herbicide, and pesticide or fertilizer.
• Ability to plant and/or maintain low impact development features.
• May supervise and coordinate work with contractors and volunteers.
• May perform rain event litter pickup and floatable debris removal within project areas. Manually loads trucks with sand, gravel, or waste material.
• Operates, maintains, and repairs equipment such as power and hand tools, mowers, weed eaters, tractors, vehicles, and other equipment commonly used for vegetative, slope, and structural maintenance. Performs routine maintenance checks on equipment, vehicles, and structures.
• Operates and maintains PTO (Power Take Off) and motor driven pumps, traveling irrigation equipment, and other similar agricultural equipment for supplemental watering. Installs and repairs irrigation systems and performs basic maintenance of wireless and stationary irrigation control boxes.
• Maintains appropriate records for storage and use of hazardous materials including training records and Safety Data Sheets.
• Trains and provides guidance and instruction to Landscape Technician I
• Performs related work as required.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Operates equipment and performs manual labor necessary to maintain vegetation, to ensure the enjoyment and safety of the public along the Mission Reach, Museum Reach and San Pedro Culture Park.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

• This position does not directly supervise any employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

• Landscape Technician I: High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and one (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of landscape or agricultural equipment and/or experience in physical landscape labor; or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Required Licenses or Certifications

• Within six (6) months of employment: ability to attain a “Handlers Verification Card” for herbicide application; attain a Texas Parks & Wildlife Boater Safety card; obtain CPR/First Aid Certification
• Confined space entry certification within 1 year of employment

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
